a request...to you...from the first born...

Happy Monday. How about those All Blacks hey? That was a close one!
But enough about the rugby...there are more important things on the agenda today! Those of you who've been visiting the townhouse for a while will know that the first born (my daughter Jess) works for Cleo Magazine. She's just been promoted to features/lifestyle writer...that's my girl :) She's asked if you lovely people could help with an article she's writing...
So, in her words...

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a cute story for the magazine about life advice from 9 – 90 year olds and was hoping you could share some words of wisdom someone under the age of 10 or over 80 has given you.

It could be funny, silly, profound, practical or supremely beautiful; I want to hear everything!
Please include the name and age of the person who gave you the advice.

I know you’re all super busy, so I thank you very much for your time!

Jess x

PS – a six year old once told me (in a very exasperated voice) “Jess, time comes and time goes and it doesn’t matter anymore.” Out of the mouths of babes…

Would love it if you could help my girl out...so I don't have to come up with something clever :)

  1. Great idea Jess and I love the wisdom of your little friend.

"As simple as we have to
    As grand as we can."

Words to live by through the ebb and flow of life which was shared by my partner (44) and has become our life mantra.

    Happy day!

  2. From my six year old: "The world isn't closing, Mamma; you don't have to rush everywhere."

Congratulations, Jess! And happy, well-deserved motherly pride, Kerry!

  3. I shall pay particular attention to what my two young ones say tomorrow Kerry! Fabulous idea :) Nothing comes to mind right away. Not even about the Rugby!

  4. My dear friend Edna (who is now in her late 90s!) always says, "Do you know what the best thing that ever happened to you is? You were BORN." (I think she gave me this advice about ten years ago, so you can use it for your story! :)

  5. 'When you are young, you should wear mascara. When you are old, you should wear MUCH MORE mascara.' It sounds like Barbara Cartland sort of advice - from my mum, aged 89.

  6. My mother who was 94 last Saturday, said to my daughter "Don't get old Rachel, there's no future in it" We all had a good laugh.

  7. Bunny, a lovely 80+ english lady once told me "You know how the rich stay rich my dear?...they hold onto their money. Don't pay for anything unless you absolutely have to!"

  9. When I was 19 my darling Mum (who was 54 at the time) turned to me as she was attaching my bridal veil to my hair & said quietly 'I don't think he's right for you.' She was right!! But just to put things in perspective Jess, I went on to find the one who was!!

  11. I don't know if this is classed as advice...but when Im having a down day my little munchkin who is 3 always grabs my face and says
" Mummy...show me happy" and it instantly makes me snap out of whatever miserable state Im in and realise that even in those down days when you feel hopeless... there are always still so many little magical moments that can make you smile.

    Congrats Jess...what an awesome achievement...and Kerry...what a proud moment for you....good skills girls ; ) x
