new york...fabulous fleas and awesome art

 Warning: extreme art overload...
You must feel like you keep being invited over to my place for a slide night by now!
I have thought about whether I should post all these pics...after all, it's not the same as being there is it?
And I would hate you to think I'm gloating. I'm definitely not, because I do know how lucky I am to have had the opportunity to flit off to New York...
and I really do think of it as sharing my experience with you...
But...I'm human, and I want this record of a fabulous time to be on my blog. That, I guess is what it's here for! So feel free to skip right by if you're not interested in flea markets or art galleries...however fascinating I might find them!
The thing I loved about all the museums and galleries I saw...that was MoMA up there...I was early...it got a lot busier!...
...the great thing was that you were allowed to take photos in them..
...so photos I took...boy did I took :)
you can't do that here...take photos in galleries I mean...what's that about?
I feel like writing to the Director of the National Gallery of Australia and requesting a 'please explain'! Skip past the next pic if you don't share my love of all things Asian...
It's positively un-Australian...the not being allowed to take photos that is...and quite possibly not loving buddhas as well :)
I know most of you are hanging out to see what I bought...but you'll have to wait...the views and the places and the people first...
...it's a bit like making sure you open the card before you rip the paper off the present :))
Soon....soon. Promise.

postcards from new york...

Are you bored to snores with all my travel pics yet?
Never mind...just a few more days of it :) I took about eleventy-three photos of the statue of liberty...I'll spare you the rest.
So...New York. I knew I'd love it, but I didn't know I'd love it as much as I did.
And for some strange reason, I don't know how to explain why it's grabbed me the way it has. I can only...
I know I'm not the only one who says this.
It's like when you have a crush on a boy...
you can't get enough...
You hang off every word...
they can do no wrong...
[NOT the swanky end!]
everything is exciting...even weird mini size burgers called sliders. Don't ask...I don't know.
and enchanting...I love the Flatiron building to bits don't you?
and bright...
and shiny...
somehow I can't see the gloss ever fading from New York.
Yep, it's love.
even when it rains...[or snows]...or is just very bloody cold!
there was nothing I didn't get a thrill from seeing...
even the steam coming out of a subway vent enthralled me (my friend Mary thought I was mad...she could be right)
I'm sure I spent most of the time walking around with a grin on my face...
and my jaw on the ground...
most attractive!

[I thought Wall St would be wider didn't you? That's the stock exchange mid left]
 Yep...serious love
Tomorrow? Let me see...flea markets, MoMA and the Met? Yep, I think that sounds about right :)
And because this truly is about the good life...I'm linking up to A Beach Cottage Good Life Wednesday :)

all images by me...except the one of Mary and me on top of the Empire State Building taken by a random tourist. A very nice random tourist of course...who took a cracker of a snap :)

washington part 2: museum overload...

I will admit it...I'm something of a museum aficionado...ok then, make that nerd.
Having done a fair bit of consulting work for a number of our national cultural institutions I know how dedicated the people who work in these places are, and how much they value the visitor...so, you know...I had to see as many as I could. Would have been rude not to. In no particular order, I blitzed...
The National Gallery of Art (my absolute favourite)...such beautiful spaces...
The American History Museum...frocks, hats, shoes and a muppet or three
Julia's kitchen...cool as...
The Natural History Museum...gems and giants (the sparkles won hands down!)
and...I kid you not...an entire hyperbolic crochet coral reef...that took 8000 hours to put together (not counting the time it took to crochet!). Perhaps that time could have been put to better use :)
The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (I showed you the sculpture yesterday)The George Washington Masonic Memorial...I confess, and no offense, but that one was a bit creepy...I think I've read too much Dan Brown :)
...cool looking globe though...back there...top left!
The Torpedo Factory...an art space with a whole heap of artist's studios...
The Sackler Gallery (but only for five minutes because it was closing and I therefore have no photos...which you're probably glad about!)...so I'll leave you with the wharf in old town Alexandria instead...
And that's it for Washington. Tomorrow...New York views. And if you can hang out until...oh, say Thursday or Friday...I might show you what I bought there :))
