I did a very foolish thing...an update

Well it's certainly been a while since I've posted hasn't it! But that's not the foolish thing I did. In fact, taking a break was probably a very wise idea.
Alas, the same can't be said for my failure to save 99% of the photos I took on the weekend when the kids and I drove to Newcastle to surprise my dad for fathers' day.

If you haven't caught up with the news (and let's face it why would you when I've been so slack, idle and absent) I've taken up photography. I'm doing a course at the Canberra Institute of Technology and I'm loving it.
But I probably should have paid more attention last week when part of the lesson was about file management. Hmmm...some lessons we have to learn the hard way I guess.
Still, I managed to play around with a few pics before I formatted the memory card (which if you don't know wipes all the images ready for the new batch). I actually did that deliberately, and didn't I think I was clever! Unfortunately I thought that the special file I'd created for my Newcastle portfolio was saved on the hard drive. Instead, it was on the memory card!! Which of course is now blank. I'm blaming the new Mac. I couldn't possibly be that silly : )
What's that you say? You need rain to make rainbows. Hmmph.
Update: I went to my photography class tonight and thankfully there are people there who know so much more than me. I downloaded some software and I've got my pictures back. Thank goodness...there were quite a lot of mum, dad and the kids. We don't get together very often so it was wonderful to be able to recover them. I love the Mac again :)

  1. Hello Kerry:
How splendid to have you back and even more thrilling to read that you have enrolled on a photography course which you are clearly enjoying even if, for the moment, file management is not your strong point!!

  2. Hi Kerry,
How lovely to see you back .... I've missed you and your lovely posts. Well, I have a shiny new MacBook Pro and am still getting to grips with it !! It's certainly a lot different to my old laptop. I love the photo of you and your family all together. They are precious times, aren't they ? ..... and the first one of your gorgeous children.
Nice to see that your enjoying your photography course too. I really enjoy photography but have never been taught how to do it properly and, even though I just point and shoot, I still seem to get some good shots....fluke probably !!
Hope that you are now back on a regular basis but, then again, who am I to talk ......... I'm lucky if I manage a post once a month !! Take care Kerry and much love. XXXX

  4. Those lost photos will be lurking inside your machine somewhere - it is almost impossible to wipe your hard-drive that clean (as Gary Glitter discovered to his cost) without professional help. Take it to one of those professionals for data retrieval, and I am sure you can get them back if you really want them.

  14. Yay. So great to hear from you again Kerry. I guess your part of the DSLR-brigade by the quality of your pics? I'm in the market for a new camera but can't quite justify graduating from my (lost) point and shoot. I want fabulous quality with no effort! Can't fathom ISOs. Off to Ted's (again) tomorrow. I bow to you!

  16. Congrats on taking up photography, and so sorry you had to go through the frustration of losing some pictures. My daughter is a photographer as well, and when we went down to Argentina a few years ago she clicked the wrong button on her new camera and she lots ALL the pics from the trip. The sad thing was, they were pictures of moments with my parents, whom she didn't happen to see again. So sad. Again, congrats on taking that course and I'm sure you'll do fabulous!

  19. Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your article seem to be running off the screen in Chrome.
I'm not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I'd
post to let you know. The design look great though!

Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Kudos
