At the outdoor table...that's Enzo the deaf and blind beagle...in a beautiful 26 degrees Celsius temperature...
Which was not the temperature when I stepped off the plane in Canberra this morning. No, that was a mere 8 degrees! And yes, I know I will get absolutely no sympathy whatsoever. But despite that, I thought you might like to see a few pics of the island...it is a very lovely place, no doubt about that, and I'm very envious of my colleague and friend David and his lovely wife Kim and their family who are happily living their dream there. Thanks so much for having me!Some of the wildlife...
...although I think there may be wildlife of a different kind when the backpackers descend en masse!
This was the Friday night RSL markets...a funny little collection of food and craft stalls...A couple of things made it home with me...a ceramic tag and fridge magnet...I really like the messages on them...
...and now I'm going to delight in the very last rose from my garden that graciously hung on until I got back and make this lovely warming paella...and share it with the MGM with a nice glass or two of red...there are some benefits of not living in the tropics it seems. I think these two may have been pleased to see me as well, just quietly!
And tomorrow...a day of catching up with you lot...couldn't think of a better way to spend some time! See...I really was working, and I've missed you :)
If you haven't already, don't forget your chance to "bag" a great leather tote! Very bad pun...sorry...just happy to be home! Even though this was rather nice...
Hi Kerry - welcome back! Lovely post and I am liking those little ceramic tags - I would have made a beeline for those in any shop! Glad you had a restful break - oh and those little kangaroos - or are they wallabies? Is there any difference? Errr - anyway they are very cute :-) Lou x
ReplyDeleteSometimes we CAN have it all! Particularly if our friends live in the right places! Love those trees and their root systems. So glad you had a nice break and in the sun too!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Kerry..so glad you got your work done...can't really understand why anyone would want to live in the tropics...cough..cough... much nicer to feel the crisp morning air ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend..Kym X
Dear Kerry, Magnetic Island, judging from your pictures, is indeed magical with a remarkable coastline and an interior filled with interest. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that all was well on your chilly return. 8C seems almost impossible to imagine as the temperature here in Budapest has been very close to 40C all of this week - and looks like continuing!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see you back sweet lady! You were missed, but what a beautiful time it looks like you had! Gorgeous pics:) Enjoy your red wine, your paella, your son and the Vampire Slayer, and your weekend:) ~ Tina xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful trip - I'm very jealous!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Kerry,
ReplyDeleteIt must have been hell out there !! The sacrifices you make for your job.
All I can say is that I am full of admiration, your job is done and, let's hope that you won't have to go back !!!! haha.
Seriously, it looks like paradise and I'm rather envious. It is supposed to be summer here but it's rather chilly at the moment. I could do with a nice plate of paella.......and I don't believe a word you say about dear little Buffy. Look how cute she looks with your son !!
Hope that your transition back to normality is a smooth one. XXXX
Welcome back missy! Those pics of yours are gorgeous. I've never been to Magnetic Island though it reminds me of Cairns. Working you say?...I would've done a runner!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're home!
Kristine

Welcome back sweetness! So sorry you had to endure such despicable working conditions, how you got through it is beyond me - at least you have the long weekend to get over it! K xx
ReplyDeleteNice shots Kerry! Love those little ceramic tags and the glass bally thingies, can't remember what you call them? Hope you have a nice fire going and a glass of red wine to cope being back in chilly Canberra!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place, it must have been difficult leaving such warmth. Canberra is about as warm as Hobart at the moment. Brrrr.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the long weekend!!
Gosh that looks like a lovely spot! I think I would have struggled to come home. Welcome back, Kerry :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that place is gorgeous. I especially loved that rounded worn rock outcropping and the trees with the aerial roots (are they fig? are they cypress? I can't remember, but I saw trees like that in Florida). I've shown the kids your photos too, and we were all impressed.
ReplyDeleteI'd love your paella recipe, by the way, as Spain is our next country on our round-the-world culinary trip and I need to make some paella but don't have a recipe.
Wow, what an island and what a great escape you had!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you... places like that can do wonders for a person :)
xo
Cool pictures of the trees with the long roots! Sometimes it is actually easier to write a report when near the water. If you had to go away for work, looks like a great place to have gone to!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun. Great quotes on those tags!
ReplyDeleteOh my, what a beautiful location! So happy you got a break away. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello and welcome back! What a beautiful place. You captured it well through your photos.
ReplyDeleteI bet the son and the slayer were thrilled to have you back - they have that glow of love in the picture. :)
Fingers crossed re the give-away.
Happy long weekend to you!
xx Charlotta
