my creative space...crochet chaos...please help!

The first born is putting the pressure on somewhat.
An email last week said, ever so politely of course..."do you think you might finish my blanket sometime before winter starts mum?"...or words to that effect!
I've made the squares. Now I just have to work out what order to put them in...that's the hard bit. I did have it mapped out but I lost the piece of paper I'd written it down on :(
Pondering, pondering...
...and wondering how to join them together. I'm not sure about that either. Does anyone have an idiot proof method. I'd be more than happy to be educated.
And do I have to do this blinking blocking thing as well?? It appears so.
On matters non crochet, I'm on a slightly less complicated endeavour today...heading off to Bangalow to do Shannon Fricke's Styling 101 workshop tomorrow. Perhaps I should take these and get a few clues!
Someone else you might know is going to be there too...we'll try not to get up to too much mischief :)
Unlike the vampire slayer...who, like a typical cat refused to move from this spot so I could vacuum the rug (which was surely in dire need) so that I could then move it to its new spot under the table...it was previously in my study, but it's undergoing a revamp. The study that is, not the rug. Or the cat.
She looks so innocent. Don't be fooled. Not for a minute.
So...can anyone help with my crochet dilemma? I'm hoping those clever people who link up over at kootoyoo on Thursdays might have a clue. But anyone will do really. For I'd hate Jess to be cold or for me to loose precious good mother brownie points by not delivering on time...even though I may have promised it for last year :)
I'll be back next week with news of styling shenanigans. Enjoy your weekends when you get to them.

  1. I've given your crochet dilemma a lot of thought. I can't help you. I don't really do needles.

Stylin' in Byron sounds grand. Have fun. x

  2. I've never done the blocking thing - I might give my finished blocks a tickle with a steam iron and pull them into shape a bit. As for joining - the crochet slip stitch is my quick and easy method of choice. I agree that the time consuming bit is working out the order. Sometimes it helps to lay them out and then look at them through the viewfinder of a camera (works with quilts too)

  3. Such a sweet gift and it's been so long since I joined squares I wouldn't know where to begin. I know Attic24 has some wonderful tutorials on all things crochet and her instructions are clear. You could probably link to her. Lots of luck!!

So sorry that I haven't been around for such a long time. Blogger sent me to Coventry but, seems to be my friend again now !!!!
.......and, you have the same dining room chairs as me.....well, we obviously both have amazing taste. Best of luck with your blanket jigsaw. XXXX

  6. I'm officially useless. I've tried crocheting, and was not successful. I love where you're going with it - good luck!

  7. Hopefully soon someone that actually crochets may be able to help! I don't either, sorry :-) Looks great though and I hear your first born, it is getting too chilly here! I would love to hear how your workshop goes!

  8. Ah Kerry, you must block I am afraid, it makes the world of difference. I am not sure though if the preferred method is before or after joining. As advised visit Attic 24. I would go for the joining technique as per notchka and the view finder thing as well.
Can't wait to see the finished product.

  12. I'm sure you will nfigure out how you want to join the pieces. :) As to the blocking thing... I have it on good authority that if your daughter washes it, it would just need blocking again. I'm not sure that really helped you though, did it! You have used some delicious looking yarns!

  13. I'm pretty sure Alicia at Posie Gets Cozy has done a tutorial on blocking http://rosylittlethings.typepad.com/posie_gets_cozy/

BTW I've only just found your blog and I love it! Your sense of style and your photos are fabulous, what an eye for colour! I thoroughly enjoyed your NY trip too - very inspirational.

  14. Hi Kerry, I normally go to YouTube.com and type in the keywords "crochet" and whatever else suits your situation. There's a lot of crocheting tutorials. Hope this is useful. Take care.

  17. I do not leave a ton of comments, however after looking at through a few
of the responses on this page "my creative space...crochet chaos...please help!".
I do have 2 questions for you if you tend not to mind.
Could it be just me or does it look like a few of the remarks appear like they
are left by brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are posting at additional places, I would like to keep up with you.

Could you make a list of the complete urls of your public sites like your linkedin
profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
