how instagram is helping me cope with depression...

Well there's a blog post heading I never thought I'd write!
This is just a short post...dipping my feet in to see how it feels. But first I want to say thank you so very, very much to the people who've been in touch with me...by email, on FB, by phone, sms....you are so generous and I appreciate your kindness. I'm sorry that I haven't been back in contact...I'm not quite ready yet to respond in the way your kindness deserves, but one day for sure...I will be :)
So....instagram? I've been doing Fat Mum Slim's April photo-a-day. It's given me something simple to concentrate on each and every day, and something to look forward to...although some days have been harder than others. Case in point; Day 14: how you feel today...
There were many other words I could have used but this felt the most appropriate, and one that was at least publishable!
I've always loved images and I'm enjoying taking more of my own...here's a smattering. I was in Sydney last week for a meeting and when it had finished I took myself off for a wander in The Domain...this sculpture is a tribute to Speakers Corner...
Day 16: flowers...
Day 13: something you found...memories of happy days on beaches or walks...
Day 5:tiny...a silver buddha on a bracelet...gifts from friends...
Day 9: younger you...much younger!
So there you go. I've also signed up for a 6 week photography course starting this month...that should be a bit of fun!

  1. Kerry, I'm so pleased you've signed up to the photography course! I look forward to seeing the results but I think you have a great eyetakeaway.
It has been great for me to see you on instagram. Taking pics is so much easier and less pressure than writing up a post to go with them, but you still get that nice contact with people. That's why I like it at least. When I saw your adrift photo I thought it very beautiful and a bit sad, but mostly just wanted to give you a big hug x

  2. Sorry, I don't think you have a great eye takeaway! Bloody predictive text! "A great eye anyway" is what I meant :)

  6. Oh Kerry .. I hadn't been visiting blogs for a while and so missed your last post. Sending you a very big hug from afar. It's true that when you hit rock bottom and finally get diagnosed, it's like a huge weight is lifted from your shoulder. There is no more confusion as to why you can't cope with everyday things. Why the gloss is taken off everything. Why there are so many tears. I hope that if you are taking medication that it is working for you. If not, whatever methods you are using .. I also hope they are working.

Sometimes, for no reason (or sometimes for very obvious reasons) our brains and hearts don't work like they usually do. I am very proud of you for writing it all down. I know it was not a call for sympathy - but of course, you also know that us bloggy crew are pretty in tune with each other and feel every bump and scratch as we all fly through life.

I wish you all the very best. Take time, blog .. don't blog, cry, smile, rest. If you come back we will all be here. If you don't, then we will always remember one of THE best and most fascinating blogs.

(note: I also succumbed to diagnosis of depression a few years back - which came as a relief for me as I was just so tired of being desperately desperately unhappy - I took the pills and they made life normal. i stopped taking them and life is still normal. i hope that works for you also.)

    take care lovely (-:

  7. Lovely photos.
So glad that you are making little steps back to us.
While you've been away, I've been thinking about you in your lovely house and hoping that it is comforting you. I know 'things' don't make us happy, but I know they make us feel better.
    Enjoy the course.
PS I'm having a day off work with a bug, so going to figure out how Instagram works - I love Pinterest and Twitter, and agree with Sarah that having that contact with like-minded people, without too much pressure, is lovely. xxx

  9. Kerry~~

I just went back to your last post and read it as I missed it. As having suffered (read: suffered) depression for well over 20 years, I think I know a bit about what you are going through, Medication helps me but it's a never ending battle. No advice here. I leave that to the professionals. Be well, my friend. The photography course sounds marvelous and I would love to take it with you. Sending you a big virtual hug.

    XO,
    Jane

  14. I love how a hobby, or something to look forward to really can make a change to your day and the way you are feeling about things. I am struggling a bit with this whole 'being a stay at home Mum' thing, and became an Avon rep to mix it up and get out of the house, it helps having appointments to make and a reason to put make up on. I definitely feel your vibe!! :) Hazel xo

  15. Hello Kerry:
We are so very sorry to learn that things have not been well with you. We have so much missed you, but do totally understand, and will much look forward to your return, as and when that might be, to your rightful place in the Blogosphere. In the meantime, the photography course sounds to be an excellent idea and will, we are sure, be greatly enjoyable too. Take the greatest possible care of yourself.

  28. What a damn good post to read mate. I've been thinking of you heaps & know that in your own inimitable way, you'll be slogging through this time knowing that you'll stumble out the other side OK. Linda's comment was so beautiful & full of meaning 'Sometimes, for no reason (or sometimes for very obvious reasons) our brains and hearts don't work like they usually do.' Amen to that.
