top ten pictures from the week ~ 12.10.10 and another online mag

Hi bloggy peeps. Back on track with a Tuesday top ten post...bet you're pleased about that...otherwise how on earth would you know what day it is? Joking.
The thing I love about my short attention span is that I can't remember what images I've collected during the week...
which means I get a nice surprise when I do the upload thing...
I take my pleasures where I can get them!
Easily pleased I am. True. Mostly...
It's usually the textures and textiles that get me...
 or an interesting structure...
or a piece of art that makes me go oooh, I'd like that. Actually, more often it's...wish I was clever enough to do it myself!
and rich colours...quite partial to those
and the tenth picture today is from a small online magazine that I recently came across...Covet garden...
I think it's Canadian but I could be wrong. Hard to believe I know, because I'm normally a meticulous researcher :) And look...they have a pattern for a knitted jar cover...
...thought that would amuse you! And it wouldn't be a top ten (or eleven) without a picture from the latest Lonny now would it?
peacock 'n all :)
And an update on the vampire slayer: she has had the tube removed from her head and now looks very unattractive with a reverse mohawk haircut. I might put a photo on the FB page later...

a small watercolour, a big thank you and a sick cat...

I had a minor moment of inspiration...why use one word when five will do!
So there you go, it's finished...apart from a frame.
But I am planning a road trip to Sydney next weekend. Ikea's there. Ikea has frames...lots of them :)
And this is very close to being finished too...I am loving how it's working out.
Now I think I'm off to cook something out of this wonderful book...
that I won at Amanda's lovely and ever so stylish blog Small Acorns...I'm going to start with this...chilli jam...yummo!
Thank you so much Amanda, who also popped in this gorgeous little purse with my parcel...so kind...and doesn't it just look like spring in a packet!
Unlike the vampire slayer who is recovering from an operation she had on her head on Friday. Don't ask! She's doing better than my wallet I'd have to say!
Have a terrific end to the weekend bloggy peeps.
Thanks for visiting this week. It it so very, very lovely to have this wonderful blogosphere connection. Lifts me up, inspires me, makes me smile...and quite a lot of the time makes me laugh like a drain...whatever that means :)
I've got a Facebook page for the blog now. Well, actually I've had it for a while but I just didn't know how to put the button on here...so if you want to click through and be FB friends too, that'd be fab!

my creative space...starting's easy!

No-one could accuse me of not giving things a go! Not starting is not the issue...
It's the finishing that may be slightly problematic...so just consider all of these a work in progress...as they say. After a rather uninspiring attempt at a watercolour earlier this week, I gave it another go...something much simpler this time...it's getting there...
Then there's the granny square rug...the squares are all done...now I just have to sew them together. The first born will get it just in time for summer!! Bet she's thrilled about that!
I've been experimenting with a bit of tapestry (or is it needlepoint)...and what's the difference anyway! You've seen this one before. I have to make it into a little door hanger thingy. The other one will probably end up sewn into something or other...
I think I'm going to frame this one when it's finished. Not sure about the heart but I love the background...I was quite pleased with that.
But this next one...in the very early stages...I do know what this is destined to become! I think it'll be quite swish if it works out the way I want it to...fingers and toes crossed bloggy peeps.
I may have rather a short attention span I suspect!
There's a whole bunch of creatives over at Kootoyoo.

top ten pictures from the week ~ 6.10.10

It's that time of the week again...
although to be honest...
given the short weeks we've been having...
I've kinda lost track of when I usually do these posts.
Tuesday I think.
Maybe next time.
Or possibly not...

Can you tell from my choices what sort of mood I've been in this week?

What did you guess?
First and last images are beds...this may be because I'm already knackered from staying up late watching the Commonwealth Games and it's only Day 2 of competition!
Which might also account for the fact that there are eleven pictures in this week's top ten...think of it as a bonus, along with the good news that the Reserve Bank didn't put up interest rates today :)

decor from india...in honour of the commonwealth games

As Australian athletes start to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India today, I thought I might showcase some Indian interiors...because, quite frankly, I'm sure they'll be much easier on the eye...
than the revolting get-up that the Aussie athletes were forced to wear in the opening ceremony...my goodness, who designs these things!! Oh ok, the team garb....vomitous...can't bear to make the pic bigger...what were we thinking!!!
unlike these lovely spaces...ah, that's better...
And to my bloggy friends from other Commonwealth countries...
my apologies in advance...
because you just know we're going to win the medal tally count don't you?
It's inevitable I'm afraid...
sorry about that...

console yourself with these lovely interiors instead...

Here's to a Games free from trouble...of any sort. India is an amazing country, and I hope it's wonderful. I'll leave you with my favourite photo of my trip to India in 2007...dawn at Varanasi...

Namaste bloggy peeps.

soul food friday ~ marriage

Richard and I are off to a wedding tomorrow...one of those 'later in life' marriages that don't come around all that often, but that have special meaning when they do...well I think so anyway. The last time I bothered to look up any statistics (despite a hard earned HD in stats when I was doing my Masters I can't stand anything remotely resembling a number!) the trend was that as a population we are marrying less and marrying later. But marrying we are...and I like that.
These beautiful wedding pictures are of Sonia and her new husband Peppe. The gorgeous (both inside and out) Sonia works in our company and she and Peppe were married on July 22nd this year. They've just come back from a very long honeymoon lucky things!
They were married in Peppe's home town Scilla in southern Italy. In the St Catarani church where Peppe's parents, grandparents and sisters were all married...to say nothing of the gazillion family christenings that have been celebrated there!
Sonia tells me that the mural behind the altar depicts St Catherine of the Wheel...you can read about her here if you're so inclined. Or take a little trip to Scilla, Calabria here.
Aren't these photos wonderful? Like something out of a magazine. But I've saved the one I like best for last...
That 'phew...so glad to see you' kiss, after the walk down the aisle :) Just beautiful.
So, where was I...oh yes, marriage. Despite a failed one (which I've thankfully stopped beating myself up about) I don't give a toss what the statistics say. Weddings bring joy, laughter, maybe a few tears, hope, happiness, excitement, fatigue, promise, and of course...mountains of love. A lot like marriage itself don't you think.
And that's what it's all about.
all images courtesy of Sonia and Peppe...a long, happy life together you two xx
p.s. In case you're wondering, despite the 'failure' (which really wasn't when you think about it, because we produced two beautiful children as a result), the ex and I get on well, and I'm facebook friends with his new wife...civilised lot we are!!
