soul food friday ~ smile big

I really like this little Scrabble 'notice board' idea I pinched lovingly copied from Stephenie at Decorating Addiction. Click here for her gorgeous spring mantle display using this bit of cleverness. And dammit, I don't have a mantle!
Stephenie's is made from vintage scrabble pieces while I have to contend with this crappy plastic stuff...but I'm hoping that my mum still has an old set hidden somewhere.  Then again, mum is not the person to admire or keep 'vintage'...to her anything old is a bad memory of a childhood where nothing could ever be new. Perspectives matter don't they?

Anyway...I like this message of 'smile big'...or perhaps it could be smile pig, he, he...do you love my flying pig...he makes me smile!

I'm pretty sure I didn't think it up by myself and it could have been swimming around my subconscious from some blog posting somewhere...so if it's yours...yell loudly...I'll hear you and respond ever so appropriately. Gratuitous Hugh Jackman pic now...
...oh that man knows how to smile big.
Reasons for me to smile big this week..in no particular order...I don't do ordered...but I do do dot points:
  • I won Nellie's give-away of beautiful gift cards at McCarthy Designs (big smooch to Nellie and her random number generator)
  • I seem to have fought off a cold that was threatening
  • The latest edition of Real Living magazine came in the mail yesterday (thanks to my beautiful daughter for the gift subscription...love you)
  • I had a teeny weeny little mention on Table Tonic
  • The vampire slayer hasn't bitten anyone, although she came close on Sunday night
  • Work was manageable this week
  • I managed to get the google reader unread items down to zero...momentarily anyway
  • My soon to be 22 year old son is moving back home for a few months (ok, this is a big thing and I'm hoping we're both still smiling at the end of it...I'm so used to having my own space, but I am looking forward to spending more time with Ben and getting him to find things at the back of high shelves...he's very tall...love you too)
  • The blogging community continues to share its enormous generosity with me and I'm so very chuffed to be part of it (I'm getting closer to deciding about what colour to paint the study...but I still have a way to go...and many sample pots to purchase I imagine!)...and a special thank you to Grace from Sense and Simplicity for yesterday's post on 10 paint colours to use with red accents and the lovely people who provided their thoughts...they really did help...even if there was no clear consensus!
So there you go...I hope you've all got lots to smile big about this week too.

  1. I feel so lucky because I can always find much to smile big about. I have a gorgeous family, love my job, have fantastic friends, and I'm just loving this bloggy adventure, due in no small part to meeting sweethearts like yourself! K xx

  2. Sounds like lots of reasons to smile. I had seen a similar Scrabble idea I was going to try and use in my study but haven't decided on which word to display yet. Congrats on winning Nellie's giveaway. Lucky you getting your Real Living magazine nice and early, you'll be able to have a good flick through over the weekend. As for Google Reader, my inbox still stands at 1000+ unfortunately so you have inspired me to tackle it over the weekend. Have a great end to the week x

  6. Oh I love the scrabble message idea!!! I wonder if my parents have that game tucked away somewhere. I love to raid their house for old stuff. Hence where I found my old dresser!! :)

  7. Should I have a google reader?? Am I missing out on some mysterious blogland thing? I too love that scrabble idea. The smiling pig remindes me of Wilbur from Charlottes Web. I can't help but smile when I look at him.

Oh and what is google reader unread items? I have a google blog list that pops up, but does it list which ones you've read and which you haven't? Hmmmm. . . so much to learn in the blogging world!

  10. Dear Kerry, I do think that the 'SMILE BIG' is great fun but, not to be outdone, I intend to unearth my 'Monopoly' and 'Cludeo' sets today to see what I can come up with. Perhaps a little tableau of Colonel Peacock [or whatever the wretched man's name is] being murdered in the study whilst in the backround his murderer, Miss Scarlet, is desperately passing 'Go' and placing more hotels on Bond Street. Distinct possibilities.

How lovely to have your son, Ben, to stay for a while. Be careful he does not eat you out of house and home - he seems just the age to do that and, in my experience, the young are constantly hungry.

So glad that Buffy is not in trouble - for once!
