courtyard gardens

My courtyard is a bit of a wreck at the moment. A bit like Baghdad on a bad day. On the weekend, late on Sunday afternoon actually (therein the first mistake), I decided that it would be a good time to rip out the honeysuckle vine that was choking the star jasmine. Not a particularly good idea bloggy peeps. It is one of those jobs that having started, you wish you hadn't; but having gone as far as you have, you know there's no going back!  You know what I mean don't you? I wish Edith would loan me J for a short while...tearing him away from his gladioli planting might be a good thing! This must be a very old picture...look at the TV...and the courtyard's a classic too.
I won't torment you with pictures of the mayhem that is the tranquil townhouse's outdoor living space at the moment...but I have plans! Oh yes, plans aplenty...
you knew there'd be pink didn't you...
and a bit of purple as well...
I have white wisteria planted in pots at the pergola posts...I'm hoping they'll look like this one day...but without the death defying pond in the middle of the path! Can you imagine after one too many cold refreshing chardonnays!!

maples and boston ivy...garden essentials in Canberra
mondo grass is probably so last decade...but I still love it...
I had star jasmine growing in that diamond shape in my last townhouse...
more a balcony than a courtyard I know...but I like it...a lot...especially the trees and the bright yellow vase that perks up the ghost chairs...just what was needed I think!

I suspect I'll be finishing off with the honeysuckle on my day off tomorrow...after the chandelier fairy and I have helped a friend move house that is. Yes, sainthood awaits us both!

  1. Dear Kerry,
Gardens require DISCIPLINE.By this I mean that:
1.Ideas need to be controlled, not allowed to run amok.
    2. The plant range should be limited in order to create bold effects rather than a 'Dolly Mixture' look. Less is definitely more and even less is even more.
3.Maintenance should be little and often to ensure a permanently well groomed look and only plants that will thrive should be countenanced no matter how appealing they may look in the plant nursery.
    4. Green is a colour and looks appealing in every season and climate. Orange does not.
    5. Knick-knacks, Japanese pagodas [outside of Japan],plasma screens and barbecues have no place in a stylish garden.

Are you sure, dear Kerry, that this is really you?

P.S. J does not travel well!!

  2. Why oh why did you not take some 'during' photos Kerry - I'll bet they would have made my Top 10 for this week!! And how about Edith mentioning the 'discipline' word - do you think she's trying to tell you something? The funny thing is, her comments could have been directed at me and would have been perfectly appropriate! Enjoy your last day at work (you know, before your mid-week mini-break!) K xx

  3. I'm sure (as usual) your vision and efforts will mean you end up with something far more delightful than even these beautiful spaces. Can't wait to see what your hard work brings (-:

  5. don't get me started on gardens darl. right now my place looks like those homes of electricians with extension cords and pwer boards everywhere, or plumbers with water hammer and leaky taps.

but more power to you, can't wait to see the after shots!! jxx

  6. Some nice inspiration photos there. That weathered grey seat looks so inviting.

I know what you mean about 'those' jobs. I decided on the weekend to finally go through our under the stairs cupboard where we'd shoved everything we couldn't find a place for when we moved in (almost a year ago!). Well, it's Tuesday, and I have boxes everywhere waiting for my husband to help me finish it off. Quite depressing.

  9. I'm sorry for my bad english !! But I can blame it on the late hour and that I was tired. I mean steal (borrow !) your idea with the jewellery and not steel. I don't know if I can laugh about it but I hope you can :)

  15. oh Kerry, these outdoor pics are quite gorgeous.I love the Morroccan one, or is it Greek, with the table all set for lunch(minus the ginormous dinner bowls which would make me feel like I'm eating out of a sink!) heh heh. My dear Dave has, over the weekend, built himself a little a bbq shelter for incliment weather...i told him i like him barefoot in his man-cave kitchen. i think he's a little irked that i found a place for a gorgeous pink hanging basket of petunias to adorn it with! he'll get over it!(i hope!) heh heh.

  21. Hi there this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG
editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I'm starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  22. I am new to developing web sites and I was wanting to know if having your website title related to your content really that crucial?
I notice your title, "Blogger: A Tranquil Townhouse " does appear to be spot on with what your website is
about but yet, I prefer to keep my title less content
descriptive and based more around site branding. Would you think this is a good idea or bad idea?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
