I had a little cushion that had seen better days so I decided to make a new cover for it in my new best friend fabric...felt! Here it is with last week's felt heart cushion.
Like most of my projects it was a tad fiddly (you think I might have learnt by now). But the thing I liked about doing this was that I had an idea and I managed to execute it! Here's a collage of the preliminaries...
First I printed out the word on a piece of A3 paper and cut the letters out. Then I traced them onto the felt and cut the template, starting off with a quick unpick before using the scissors.
I put a pretty poplin behind
...and stitched around each letter. Next word will have more straight edges!
So here's what I'm thinking...a 'range' of felt cushions called feelings...with words describing things that we've felt...get it! I know, I know...
I'm thinking of words like: love (of course), lust (well why not!), joy, harmony, cherish...maybe even blah, blah, blah (for a laugh!)
Do you have any suggestions for me, including what I might do with these!
And of course it's not a project without the vampire slayer now is it...claws out ready to strike...nothing blissful about her.
In the only place she will sleep...completely ignoring the very expensive fur lined basket that I've now donated to a much more deserving cat!
Head on over to Kootoyoo for a bucketload of creative spaces...
Fab idea Kerry, you've done great with this one. Look forward to seeing the rest. I'm liking the idea of lust and blah blah blah :)
ReplyDeleteOh that cat, she's always at the ready, isn't she? What a character...
A very lovely cat, she looks above it all, doesn't she?
ReplyDeleteHappy days! You did a great job on your cushions! Your cat looks like it's about to attack ;)
ReplyDeleteLook what having just one day to yourself each week frees you up to do - create absolutely freaking awesome things like this! You really are too clever for words. And sweet little Buffy is just admiring your handiwork - you really are too harsh on that little poppet! K xx
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!! I also love the sense of excitement and accomplishment that comes through your creative posts my friend!! So glad Wednesdays are now just for YOU:) I think your range of 'feelings' cushions sound fabulous, and as for what you can do with them.....Etsy!! Hugs ~ Txx
ReplyDeleteLooks terrific! I like your choice of words. Others might be REST, UM..., DESIRE, SOFT, LAUGH, PLAY, USE or HOLD. X
ReplyDeleteVery clever, as always..I like the word you've chosen too..hopefully that's how you feel most of the time! I do love the Vampire Slayer too. Such a perfect match for our Lenny. Rachaelxx
ReplyDeleteFANTATSIC Kerry. You are so clever.
ReplyDeleteI have an idea for a teenage boy cushion. Black or grey felt with the word "WHATEVER" in white. Or a range for teenagers with "lol", "rofl" etc.

Your cushion is gorgeous Kerry you are too clever. I love Ange's idea for teenage cushions. You can use the words that you cut out to make a reverse cushion using the poplin for the cushion and stitching the felt word on. xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever lady! I was thinking of you yesterday because the first time I 'met' you, you had knitted dishcloths on your mind (and for the record, I agree there is no WAY Sibella would knit her own!) but anyway, I digress. I found this site www.biddybags.com.au who specialise in...can you believe...knitted dishcloths and body cloths. If you gave up knitting your own, may be worth a look.
ReplyDeleteX Briohny.
That's awesome. I need to polish up on my sewing skills pronto. Buffy looks suitably impressed - her claws are just out cause she's guarding the new fabulous cushion, no menace intended I'm sure :-)

These are too cute ..i love it ..wish i could sew:( very very clever kerry well done :)xx
ReplyDeleteThese look wonderful Kerry! Love the way you've put that pretty fabric behind the cut out letters. Your cat is adorable posing with your new creations :)
ReplyDeleteDear Kerry, The time, the patience, the skill required to produce your BLISS cushion puts me to shame. I cannot remember the last time, if ever, that I threaded a needle. But, I am filled with admiration and clearly now you are well on the way, if need be, to setting up not only a Silver Chairs Factory but also a Personalise Your Cushion Factory. Think of the potential. Hear those cash registers ringing!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Buffy and am so pleased to see more of him. Could you not extend his role and create Buffy's Blog?
Kerry, you are seriously clever! I would never be able to complete that project in a million years! x
ReplyDeleteReverse applique is really lovely. You've done a very good job...it looks super neat despite the curves
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! What an inspired idea! And your cat is so cute!! :) Hazel
ReplyDeleteyou're flipping brilliant - you know that right. v.cool project.
ReplyDeleteand btw, buffy looks way evil in that shot! can't help but want to have a stare down with her, but sadly, in this medium, she'd win!!

You're a very talented cushion-maker ! I like both cushions (maybe the one with the heart a little bit more, just maybe).
ReplyDeleteI like doing cushions too because it feels like a project in the right size.

Love it. Oh the patience required to sew.. I wish I had it. .....and oh how I love your cat. A-M xx
ReplyDeleteThey are fantastic! You could use the leftover letters for big comfy t-shirts (sleeping shirts) to go with the pillows or frame them for walls.
ReplyDeleteAnd your sewing is great! You can do curves.
I hopped over from Somewhat Simple! LuV your blog!! POOR cat....how could YOU disturb her???? LOL I luv the ARROGANCE of the feline world:)
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday
Your craftiness never ceases to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea - it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
Hi, I just found your blog and I am currently working my way through. I love the cushions and the idea to use word. There is a word here in Wales that I just love it is Cwtch (pronounced cooch) it is hard to translate but basically means safe place, it is also used for describing things like a hug, love so for example you would cwtch up on the sofa. It is a word that makes me feel all safe and cosy so I think a lovely felt cushion with that word is just right for a sofa.
ReplyDeletelook how uber creative you are. i have been reading your blog page after page today....loooooving it! xoxox
ReplyDeleteAw, this was an incredibly nice post. Finding the time and actual effort to make a great article… but what can I say… I
ReplyDeletehesitate a whole lot and don't seem to get anything done.
