I took this one that I had...
...grabbed a can of white enamel spray paint and went to town, resulting in this...and although you can't see it very well in this photo, the detail of the mirror is much more visible now
The spray paint was a bit too creamy white for the rest of the white painted furniture in my bedroom so I gave it a final coat of oil based enamel paint out of a tin instead of the aerosol, to get it just right.
Then there was this bit of ugliness...ok, not helped by the fact that a whole jumble of stuff was just shoved in there, but even so...yuck (please note, this was in the house when I bought it and it isn't my style at all)...but I couldn't let it go to waste...
But now...with the help of some IKEA fabric that I used to back the shelves (just covered them in some heavy cardboard and slipped them in), and the good old white enamel, it looks like this...
...and I'm much happier with it. Together, the mirror and the bookcase are giving me all kinds of pleasure...even the old cane sewing basket got the paint treatment to match the cane drawers on my bedside tables. There's a shot of those later...sort of.
Then...there was this wooden Indian screen, seen below...ok, just a glimpse I know...in a previous incarnation in a previous house...c'mon look hard...there it is behind the rocking horse (sorry, dodgy real estate agent photo)...
...and look at her now. I'm so in love with it as a bedhead...
Oh, and I painted the bedside tables white as well (you can see the black painted cane drawers here, kind of). It seems to be coming together. Now for Phase 2 which is a stepped down area off to the left of the bed. Some plastering required down there first, and I may just need some help with that project! Volunteers? Anyone? Hello??? Ok, where's the Yellow Pages.

ReplyDeleteI found it, Kerry. I wasn't going to let your lack of a search button defeat me. Your bookshelf looks fab. Ikea fabric is a great idea too. I will have to keep this in mind for our shelves. I'm thinking wallpaper is going to be expensive and oh, the commitment issues I have...Thanks for letting me know about this. xx
